The Universal
There's sucha lot of good ways to be bad
And so manybad ways to be good;
Haven't paidmy rent yet --
I tell themSorry, but I haven't got the money anymore.
Just forToday I thought I'd leave Home alone,
Hold handswith Day --
And if I'm sobad, why don't they take me away?
Just likewhat You hear
With a Shellpressed to your Ear,
That's theSea in the Trees in the Morning:
'Hello theUniversal!'
'Goodmorning Steve, Well you won't believe me today.'
Workingdoesn't seem to be the Perfect Thing for me,
So I'llcontinue to play.
And if I'm sobad, Why don't they take me away?
A hippy-trippy name dropper came through my door,
Hesaid:
'I justbumped into Mick -- he told me you know where to score?'
'No, not mefriend. I mind my Own and my own minds Me.'
Well my Loveis at the Foot of your Hand --
Come What May:
But if Junecomes first, Please won't you take me Away?

Dreaming Spires; Bridge of Sighs (It's All Too Beautiful)
Over Bridge of Sighs
To rest my eyes in shades of green
Under dreaming spires
To Itchycoo Park, that's where I've been
What did you do there?
I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up feeding ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
With eyes that have followed the sun
Get hung up feeding ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
With eyes that have followed the sun
Reader Note: Jane is off to Cambridge, England on a 10-day exchange program today. We are very excited for her. I know that the Dreaming Spires image comes from Matthew Arnold and refers specifically to Oxford, but I think it will do here also. After all, the Small Faces lyric also includes a reference to Henry Hutchinson's Bridge of Sighs at St. John's College, Cambridge. Enjoy the cool punting, enjoy the linked Small Faces performances. It is brutally hot here in the Delaware Valley. It's all too beautiful.
